Justin Bieber's Baby

Justin Bieber released his first video, Baby, in March 2010. By July 2010 it had become the most-watched video on YouTube, according to Billboard. Revisiting that video, it is easy to see why Justin is considered to be such a pop sensation. This is music that anyone can enjoy.

The video takes place in a bowling alley filled with teenagers. Perhaps there are still places in America where teenagers spend a Saturday night bowling. It would be nice to think so, anyway. For the younger generation, this setting gives the video a cool ‘retro’ feel. For their parents, it’s memories of younger days. The video is appealing for its innocence. Interaction between the genders is old-fashioned, with the girls giggling together in one group while the boys are across the room in a group, showing off to get the girls’ attention. The teens display just enough attitude to keep it interesting.

The song, Baby, also appeals to a wide audience. It’s a song you can sing along with. Again, a little bit of attitude, provided by a quick rap solo by Ludicrous, keeps it from being too sweet. The addition of a little rap helps to bring the pop song to the forefront of today’s music.

As a career starter, Justin Bieber did an excellent job with Baby.
